Service Description:

Global relative rate of natural capital depletion of the atmosphere, measured through temperature anomalies and emissions of non-GHG pollutants. The relative depletion rates enable the identification of hotspots of natural capital depletion (defined as the top 20% of values), where human activities will be associated with higher risks of ecosystem service loss or degradation. This will, in turn, present higher risks for financial institutions investing in these areas.

Temperature trend values for 1990-2019 were converted to absolute values and normalised between 0 and 1. Annual emissions gridmaps (2015) for 9 non-GHG substances were normalised between 0 and 1, then summed. The combined non-GHG emissions layers was then re-scaled from 0-1, and log(x+1) transformed. The temperature anomalies and non-GHG emissions layers were summed and then re-scaled (0-1) to produce the atmosphere depletion layer.

GISS Surface temperature analysis data used for temperature anomalies (https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/) and EC JRC EDGAR data for non-GHG emissions (https://edgar.jrc.ec.europa.eu/overview.php?v=50_AP).
