Service Description:

This layer shows the number of threatened amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles and plant taxa whose distribution overlaps in each 10 km cell. Species ranges were rasterised at 1 km resolution from polygon maps from:

Additional vascular plant species ranges were created from point data from the IUCN Red List, Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) (www.bgci.org), and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) (www.gbif.org). Species range maps were refined, when possible, by removing unsuitable areas using information on species’ habitat preferences and species' known altitudinal limits. This refinement process produced Areas of Habitat (AOH) maps for each species (Brooks et al. 2019).

Layers: Description: Global island data broken into four layers: continental mainlands, big islands (> 1km2), small islands (<= 1km2 AND >= 0.0036km2), and very small islands (< 0.0036km2). This dataset builds on a USGS Esri product produced in 2018 through global classification of composite 2015 Landsat imagery as water or land with a minimum mapping unit of 3600 square meters (the area of four contiguous Landsat pixels) (Sayer et al. 2018). The USGS Esri data was compared and merged with a global islands dataset created and maintained by WCMC and Island Conservation. Islands that were missing from the original USGS Esri dataset were gathered and included from the WCMC Island Conservation data and further polygon attribute information was collected as well.
