<logic>The dataset has been created using a biome space combined with tree cover. There has been no attempt to to distinguish natural from plantation cover in this case. It is therefore inevitable that some of the 'tropical dry forest' in this map is in fact plantation forest occupying a climate space that may have originally supported tropical dry forest.
This map has not been ground truthed. In particular, the assumption that 'forest' can be defined by a restriction to 40% canopy cover has not been verified with respect to dry forest.
The tree cover map (MODIS) is a classified satellite image. There is scope for error, which has not been evaluated for this application.
The arid zone map was not delineated to the same degree of accuracy as the ecoregions map, so there are disparities in edges which are clearly intended to indicate the same physical boundaries. Also, there are some distinct curves: see the dry forest defined at the edge of subSaharan Africa.</logic>

This distribution map was overlaid with spatial data to estimate the exposure of tropical dry forests to a number of different threats: climate change, habitat fragmentation, fire, human population density and conversion to cropland. The extent of tropical dry forest currently protected was estimated by overlaying the forest map with a global data set of the distribution of protected areas.

This grid dataset shows the estimated maximum distribution of dry and seasonally dry topical forest. <report type="DQConcConsis">
<measDesc>The dataset has been created using a biome space combined with tree cover.
Also, there are some distinct curves: see the dry forest defined at the edge of subSaharan Africa.</measDesc>
